Learn how to make your labels look like mine, using that brother p touch label maker.
Label makers can feel intimidating… but once you get the hang of it, they’re actually one of the fastest ways to bring instant order to your space.
If you didn’t yet purchase my favorite label maker, start with reading this post where I show you different label makers based on your needs and budget.
If you already have my favorite label maker maker, Brother P-Touch, you are ready to make labels just like I do. Here goes!

Step 1: Pick the Right Tape
Before you even turn the machine on, decide what you’re labeling. This will help you choose the right color and size — which makes a HUGE difference in how polished everything looks. Decide if you need bigger labels or small. This wil depend on where label is going and if you want it to be bold or more subtle . In general, we’ve been going for the more subtle look. Think smaller labels and clear tape . The huge vinyl labels are so 2020! Yes there are trends in labels too :)
Favorite label color combos for a streamline , more subtle look:
White letters on a clear background- 12cm Labels and 18cm Labels.
Black letters on a clear background- 12cm Labels and 18cm Labels.

White letters on a black background

Step 2: Choose the Right Size
You don’t need to overthink this — here’s my go-to rule. Large labels good for toy bins, pantries, storage areas and garages . Smaller labels for bedrooms , more decorative storage bins (you don’t want to ruin a gorgeous $60 bin with a huge label) and a more elegant look.
Small ½” labels → use 24 pt font
¾” labels → use 36 pt font
That’s it. Easy, consistent, and visually clean.
Step 3: Keep the Font Simple
This is where most people overcomplicate things — don’t . I like a simple clean font . I also prefer to use the same font throughout the home.
What I love:
Helvetica (clean, timeless, easy to read)
Bold (it’s more clear)
ALL CAPS (a cleaner look)
Once those are set, you’re ready to type and print.

Pro Tip (This Saves SO Much Time)
Instead of printing one label at a time, type multiple labels in a row, leaving a space between each one.
Then hit print once.
It’s way faster and makes labeling sessions feel efficient instead of annoying.
Labeling doesn’t have to be complicated. When it’s simple, consistent, and easy to read — it instantly elevates your space and makes systems easier to maintain.
If you’ve been avoiding your label maker… this is your sign to pull it out .
