How to Store Bags (Yes, ALL the Bags)

Who knew bags would be one of the most asked questions on my Q&A? Shopping bags, garbage bags, reusable bags, Ziploc bags… we need them all — but that doesn’t mean they get to take over your home. Here’s how to keep them contained and actually easy to grab.
Garbage Bags
First thing — take them out of the box. I know it sounds counterintuitive, but sticking your hand into a giant cardboard box every time you need a bag is not the move. It’s bulky, it’s awkward, and it takes up way more space than it needs to. Store the roll in a bin near your trash can or under your kitchen sink and you’re done.

Ziploc Bags
A narrow kitchen drawer is my go-to for these. You can keep them in their original boxes, or if you want something a little more put-together, these organizers are so good — they come with matching holders for foil and parchment paper too. It will definitely become your new favorite drawer. More than one set can be purchased for multiple size bags . You can even make your own labels. Just be aware, this isn’t the most space saving option so if you don’t have a lot of space , maybe it’s not the right option for you

For those who don’t have an extra drawer these door organizers are amazing for bags and foil.

Plastic Shopping Bags
A dispenser is the best way. It keeps them contained, it keeps you from hoarding 500 of them “just in case,” and here’s the rule: if it’s full, you’re stocked. If it’s full and you have more… you can throw them out. You’ll get more soon, I promise.
Reusable Grocery Bags
Fold them flat and store in a drawer or a designated bin — they take up way less space than you think when they’re actually folded. No more exploding cabinet of bags attacking you every time you open the door.

Nice Paper Bags
Yes, save the pretty ones — but be selective. Fold them flat, tuck them in a drawer or bin by size, and cap yourself. A few small, a few medium, a few large. That’s it. You don’t need 40 designer bags. (You know who you are.)

Now you’ve got the system — go round up every rogue bag in your house and get them sorted. I promise it takes less than 20 minutes and you’ll feel SO much better every time you open that drawer or cabinet. Let me know in the comments which bag situation was your biggest struggle — I have a feeling I know the answer!
